Singapore law requires that all male citizens and second-generation permanent residents complete two years of full-time National Service (NS) after turning 18 and completing their secondary education. How, then, should NSFs — and soon-to-be NSFs — approach their overseas university applications, given their NS commitments?
As application season nears, you might begin to wonder which decision cycle you want to apply in, and how this choice affects your likelihood of getting into your dream schools. To apply early to a school is to show your interest in it. This is particularly true in the case of Early Decision, which is binding, and Restrictive Early Action, which forces you to limit your early applications to one institution.
In 1926, the SAT made its debut among a few thousand college applicants as the ‘Scholastic Assessment Test’. Soon after in 1934, James Bryant Conant, then president of Harvard College, established a scholarship program for low-income students that required candidates to take the SAT in an effort to make the university more inclusive.
