Pre-University Preparation
Most universities in the US and UK evaluate applicants on their overall track record from grade 9 onwards. US universities offer students the opportunity to write multiple personal essays, curate activities and awards lists, as well as make a case for their candidacy through interviews. UK universities look out for academic potential and intellectual curiosity through the students’ engagement in super-curricular activities. Despite the differences in prioritization of diverse application elements, all admissions officers deeply care about one core question – what is the student’s personal story?
In light of such expectations, it’s only natural that young students are posed with questions like –What are the components of my personal story? How do I spend my time in the next few years building a profile that feels most honest to me? By when should I have clarity about what I want to study? How do I manage competing priorities to balance academics, extracurricular engagements and accomplishments, free time? Sometimes, finding the first question to answer can be the hardest thing to do.
Our Headstart Program has been carefully designed to help you unfold the answers to these questions and create a personalized plan in preparation for your university application.

University College London (UCL)
For his writing-intensive undergraduate degree in History at Yale University, Alex completed a senior research thesis examining the effectiveness of indiscriminate aerial bombing campaigns during the Second World War. More recently, for a Master's degree in Science and Technology Studies at University College London (UCL), he applied the techniques of data science to analyse online spam campaigns, and the methods of investigative journalism to dissect a global cybersecurity attack.
At IvyPrep, Alex has enjoyed helping a diverse range of students envision how their unique gifts, personal values, and long-term goals, can be married to specific opportunities in the world of tertiary education – and persuasively articulate this vision in their applications.
