Student Journey  |  APRIL

Read all about S.S.’s journey towards his dream school, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania!

EARLY PREPARATIONS

S.S. first knocked on our doors in early 2020. At the time, he had just started Grade 11, and the family was beginning to have conversations about all the steps he would be wise to take on his path towards university.

Sat

The first of these steps was taking the SAT. Even though many universities were choosing to go test-optional or test-blind, S.S. saw the SAT as a means of augmenting his overall application, providing one more shred of evidence to support his academic excellence. After taking a diagnostic test with us, and having been guided through his score report, we created a targeted plan for his preparation that focused on beefing up his knowledge of core mathematical concepts.

Working closely with his teacher, he saw a steady improvement in his scores as he completed regular practice tests. By the end of the year, he had sat for two formal SATs, reaching a 1560, which put him firmly in the 99+ percentile.

During his SAT preparation, S.S. struck up great rapport with his English tutor who had years of experience in college admissions and also worked with students on their applications to the US. Speaking with the same advisor that he had met in regards to the SAT, S.S.'s family decided to engage us further to work on his US applications.

US university ADMISSIONS CONSULTING

S.S.'s dream school had been Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for a long time. His penchant for business pervaded from his academic choices in school, through to his extracurricular activities - his clubs, summer school programs, and internships all supported this strong academic and professional interest.

U.S. UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS CONSULTING

S.S.'s dream school had been Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for a long time. His penchant for business pervaded from his academic choices in school, through to his extracurricular activities - his clubs, summer school programs, and internships all supported this strong academic and professional interest.

Building on these strong foundations, we began working with S.S. on his applications to business schools. Midway through Phase 1, our strategy and planning stage, S.S. and his consultant both recognised that apart from his strong extracurriculars, he shined when it came to his super curriculars. Super curricular activities refer to those explorations, related to one’s academic or professional interests, through which a student gains far more depth in a subject than they would normally in a classroom setting. As super curriculars activities are of key importance to UK applications, we advised him that he would stand a strong chance at admission into a top tier school there as well.

“My consultant was very helpful and knowledgeable, providing guidance to enrich my Capstone experience while also making sure I stayed on track. My Capstone experience allowed me to accomplish far more than I would have been able to do on my own.”

Ultimately, the insights learned from creating and managing the project, were key to H.X kickstarting her application a process – a journey that was yet to come.

REGULAR CONSULTS

Toying with the idea of applying, S.S. met with our senior consultant, a Cambridge grad with over 20 years of experience in the banking and consulting sectors, to give him real world context and share his experience. S.S. chose him to be his consultant for his Oxbridge application and as his tutor for the TSA. He trusted us to coach him for his Cambridge interviews as well, for which we brought in external, subject-specific mentors.

S.S. ensured that he met with his consultants and strategist regularly to maximize his chances of admission, and applied Early Decision to Wharton.

Ultimately, the first acceptance that S.S. received was from the school that he’d been dreaming of going to ever since a campus visit when he was in primary school. We’re incredibly proud that after all the hard work he put in, S.S. will be attending Wharton as part of the class of 2026!

“My consultant was very helpful in helping me strategize the content I include in each essay to ensure that each school is able to see multiple areas I have shown interest or grown in. He was also very helpful and responded very promptly with feedback. The consulting program definitely helped me to get into my first-choice university.”
