University LaunchPad

Imagine this: in a few weeks to a year’s time, you’ll be putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), articulating the narratives that will grant you a place at the institution where you’ll cultivate the life ahead of you. Given the monumental importance of this task, however, we often find our minds (and fingers!) frozen with inertia – born of an uncertainty of where to even begin.

This experience is totally normal – universal, even. What will set you apart from other applicants, therefore, are the steps you take to overcome this initial hurdle. At IvyPrep, we have masterminded a curriculum to fulfill this very purpose, allowing you to complete this once-in-a-lifetime challenge with clarity and peace of mind.

Workshop speakers

Alexander Nehmzow

B.A., Yale University
M.Sc., University College London (UCL)

For his writing-intensive undergraduate degree in History at Yale University, Alex completed a senior research thesis examining the effectiveness of indiscriminate aerial bombing campaigns during the Second World War. More recently, for a Master's degree in Science and Technology Studies at University College London (UCL), he applied the techniques of data science to analyse online spam campaigns, and the methods of investigative journalism to dissect a global cybersecurity attack.

At IvyPrep, Alex has enjoyed helping a diverse range of students envision how their unique gifts, personal values, and long-term goals, can be married to specific opportunities in the world of tertiary education – and persuasively articulate this vision in their applications.

Shani Samtani

B.A., Yale-NUS College

Shani is a First Class Honors Philosophy, Politics, and Economics graduate from Yale-NUS College. During her own college application days, she obtained full-ride scholarships to Yale-NUS and NYU Abu Dhabi, partial merit scholarships to Santa Clara University and Occidental College, and general admission to Brown University, UC Berkeley, and UC Los Angeles. Shani's academic interests lie in political institutions and urban affairs, which she has had the opportunity to explore through her involvement with six different public service organisations over the last eight years. The cumulation of these experiences unearthed her passion for education, which she has pursued in various capacities – from working as a faculty-hired writing tutor at the Yale-NUS Writers' Centre to teaching English and music at public schools in Manila and New Haven.

Now, as a Teacher and Consultant at IvyPrep, Shani aspires to help every student take full ownership of their respective essay-writing and test-taking journeys, as she believes this to be the key to every stand-out application.
